Thatcham category 1 status

Thatcham category1 combines alarm and immobiliser to form a complete vechicle security system so the Thatcham organisation have specifed two products;

• Category 1 alarm and immobiliser designed to fit into any vehicle.
• Category 2 to 1 upgrade designed for newer UK specification vehicles that already have a factory fitted category2 immobiliser

Thatcham category 2 status

There are two popular types of Thatcham category 2 immobilisers available;

• Touchkey immobiliser requires an electronically coded key fob to be inserted into a receptable on the dash before starting the engine.
• Transponder immobiliser uses a key fob that transmits a wireless coded signal to the engine that allows it to start.

Thatcham Q class

The Thatcham Quality Accreditation scheme has been designed to provide a more robust and consumer identifiable product to the automotive industry. Established during the first quarter of 2006, this scheme will ultimately replace the current Thatcham Q Class listing as of January 2007. All participants with Q listed products have been informed regarding the impending change and should now be on the road towards transferring to this initiative.
