Thatcham cat2 to 1 upgrade

There are many Thatcham category 1 alarms on the market but before making a choice you must find out if your vehicle has a cat 2 immobiliser already installed. Newer UK spec cars have them factory fitted as standard for the UK market but if your car has not been important by the manufacturer or is very old then it is unlikely to be fitted with a cat 2. A Thatcham category 1 alarm upgrade is all you need for cars with an existing cat 2 immobiliser otherwise choose a cat 1 alarm and immobiliser.

Thatcham category 2 to 1 upgrades differ from soft top cars and hard top cars and you will need to buy an alarm with a microwave interior sensor for an open top car. All other vehicles can be fitted with a Thatcham cat 2 to 1 alarm upgrade with either an ultrasonic interior sensor or microwave sensor.

If you have a small car or limited on space then look out for compact Thatcham category 2 to 1 upgrades that is both small in size and has the siren and electronic brain in one unit. Cobra 7928 Thatcham cat 2>1 alarm is compact in design.

Universal Thatcham category 2to1 alarms come with a pair of high security remote controls that operate the central locking and arm and disarm the alarm. If you prefer to use your existing remotes you can buy a Thatcham cat 2-1 alarm upgrade that utilises the cars remotes provided that they are compatible with Thatcham high security specification.

All Thatcham category 2:1 alarm upgrades have basic features like; perimeter detection, ignition detection, passenger compartment movement detection or glass break and inclination detection, high security remotes, audible warning with battery back-up power supply. Extra sensors and accessories like; dual zone pre warning bleep, radio or SMS pager, tilt or motion sensor, glass break detector or window closure can also be connected to a Thatcham cat 2-1 upgrade to provide extra security
