Motorhome security
There
are two Thatcham
alarm categories in the UK; category1 which is and alarm immobiliser and
cat2 to 1 is an alarm on its own but designed to integrate with motorhomes
that already have a cat2 immobiliser. Both Thatcham
alarms can be used with motorhomes that already have an existing category2
immobiliser but only a full cat1 should be fitted to motorhomes without
an existing class2 immobiliser.
Thatcham
alarm for motorhomes with cat2 are cheaper and quicker to install because
they use the existing immobiliser so they are less complicated to manufacture
and install. Cat 2:1 Thatcham
motorhome alarms are suitable for newer UK specification motorhomes as
most of them come factory fitted with a class 2 immobiliser.
Thatcham
alarm for motorhomes without category2 must be be fitted with a full cat1
alarm with integrated 2 or 3 circuit immobiliser all combined in one unit.
These Thatcham
motorhome alarms tend to be fitted to older motorhomes or unofficial imports
where they are not designed to UK specification in terms of Thatcham security
systems.
Thatcham
motorhome alarm installation should be carried out by an authorised installer
who will provide a Thatcham certificate after the fitting is completed.
Thatcham motorhome
alarms vary in time and complexity to fit and you will have to allow more
time for the
fitter to install any optional extras sensors.
