Thatcham securityThere are different categories of Thatcham security devices ranging from combined Alarms and Immobilisers through to After Theft Tracking Systems and Q Class non categorised aftermarket devices. In each category, third party security products have been evaluated using specific tests to indicate the effectiveness of the product. Each Thatcham security product is subject to a review after 12 months so you may find that some out of date systems are delisted. Category1 Thatcham security is an electronic alarm and immobiliser with perimeter detection, ignition detection, passenger compartment movement detection or glass break and inclination detection, audible warning with battery back-up power supply and the immobiliser is passively set and isolates a minimum of two operating circuits or systems, or a minimum of one operationally relevant vehicle control unit with coded intervention. Cat2 Thatcham security is an electronic/electromechanical immobiliser that is passively set and isolates a minimum of two operating circuits or systems, or a minimum of one operationally relevant vehicle control unit with coded intervention.
Category 2>1 Thatcham security is an electronic alarm upgrade for installation on vehicles with existing Category 2 immobilisation to attain Category 1 status Approved Devices with alarm perimeter detection, ignition detection, passenger compartment movement detection or glass break and inclination detection, audible warning with battery back-up power supply and resistance to attack for a minimum of one minute. Cat 3 Thatcham security is a mechanical immobiliser that is easy to set and unset and isolates a minimum of one operating system that can be permanently or temporarily installed. Category4 Thatcham security is a wheel locking device with reliability and durability, secure key replacement procedure, product traceability and resistance to attack. Cat5 Thatcham security is a tracking system with vehicle location system, remote immobilisation and signalling system. Q class Thatcham security will be replaced by the Thatcham Quality Accreditation scheme by January 2007. All Thatcham security manufacturers with Q listed products have been informed and will be transferring to this initiative. Thatcham Quality Accreditation is a more robust program and products will be rigorously tested to a predefined criteria established by Thatcham’s Vehicle Security and Quality functions. |
